Master SERP+ Programme

Nanotechnology and bionanotechnology

  1. Introduction to nanotechnology: Scope, historical perspective, current and future applications.
  2. Preparation of nanomaterials: Bottom-up and top-down approaches; mixed methods.
  3. Properties of some nanomaterials: metals; metal oxides; silica; quantum dots; carbon nanomaterials; mixed materials.
  4. Bionanotechnology: Scope and applications; case studies (Nanomedicine; Molecular analysis; Imaging; Cell and Tissue Engineering; Nanobiosensor; Nanomanipulation; Molecular Motors; Nanotoxicology)
  5. Ethical and societal impact of nanotechnology.

The objective of the course is to provide an introduction of nanotechnology that will allow the students either to proceed to advanced studies in the area or to use the nanotechnology tools and materials in other areas such as chemistry, biochemistry and related fields.
