Content

Physical properties of materials: electrical, thermal, magnetic, optical and mechanical properties. Structure-property relationships. Durability, toxicity, biocompatibility, availability, recyclability and price stability. Application of concepts to metals, polymers, ceramics, composites, soft materials and semiconductors. Ionic liquid properties and applications. The effect of material processing on material properties. Useful range of practical applications. Properties and applications of soft materials and biomaterials. Rheological properties of colloids, polymers and liquid crystals.

Aims

To provide an advanced understanding of the relationship between:

  1. the molecular structure of materials and their physical properties;
  2. the effect of processing on the bulk and interface properties and morphology;
  3. applicability based on the material functionality, sustainability, durability, toxicity, biocompatibility, availability, recyclability and price stability.
