What's new?

From SERP-Chem to SERP+ !

The Erasmus Mundus label of the SERP-Chem master has been renewed for 3 more classes!!!  In September 2017, our team will thus start a new adventure with the SERP+ master.

Decoding the successful SERP-Chem programme has prompted the consortium to work on the new SERP+ project, which tackles new domains of excellence, a new mobility scheme and a new team of 19 associated partners! This strong partnership with companies, academic institutions and research and innovation centres in Europe, Asia and Latin America, will allow the students to strengthen their professional skills and build their network. Focus on Science

Visit of SAES Getters

Second-year students attending the master at the University of Genoa had the possibility to visit the SAES Getters company at the beginning of the third semester. SAES Getters focuses on the development and production of systems containing active advanced materials for applications where there is a request for stringent vacuum conditions or for ultra-pure gases. It is moreover active in the development of shape memory products for industrial and medical markets and of organic electronics. The employed technologies are based on the chemical activity of nanostructured surfaces, which is a major topic taught in SERP+.

The place under the SOLEIL

First-year students were invited to visit the SOLEIL company, one of the two existing synchrotrons in France (another is installed in Grenoble, called European Synchrotron radiation Facility (ESRF)). It is a research center that produces a very powerful light source (synchrotron radiation) to study the materials. The beams of light, which are 10,000 times brighter than that of the sun, are produced by accelerating electrons at the close to the speed of light. As a result, the radiation from IR to X-ray is obtained to analyze the materials for various fields starting from geophysics to medicine. The students observed the center from inside, entering the booster ring and exploring the construction of magnets and chambers for the electron path.

Industrial conferences

The Industrial Conferences is an event organized by École normale supérieure de Cachan (Université Paris-Saclay) in which alumni and company representatives present their research and share their experience with a wider public. Thus, students could benefit from valuable guidance to succeed in their academic learning and their future career.

They had the opportunity to attend conferences on a range of topics such as Adblue Delivery Module (ADM) for Selective Catalytic Reduction, patent and innovation, or challenges of deployment of autonomous cars in Africa. Speakers included professionals from Plastic Omnium, Deloitte and Daffodils Company.

Social activities

KOEZIO: Challenge accepted!

Being part of SERP-Chem is a challenge; therefore students have to be prepared to accept it. That is why the 2016-2017 academic year started at the adventure park – KOEZIO. It is a game platform, where each team goes through five different levels to solve a final enigma. The game required not only agility and courage, but also team spirit and trust in each other. The students were not alone, the brave teaching and support staff was involved in the game in order to motivate the students.

Christmas lunch before holidays

After many exams, students attended the Christmas lunch with their professors in order to celebrate the end of the semester. It helps students relieve stress, but also strengthen the student-teacher relationship. Students even prepared some presents for the lucky teachers who were present!

Alumni Network

EMA General Assembly 2016

From the 25th to 27th of November 2016, the Erasmus Mundus Student and Alumni Association (EMA) held its annual General Assembly at the Università della Svizzera Italiana, in Lugano, Switzerland. Erika VOCAL (class of 2014-2016) was in attendance as the Program Representative of SERP-Chem. Jia Ying THAM (class of 2012-2014) was also present as the Country Representative of Malaysia. The General Assembly is used as a forum for networking, an opportunity to contribute to the development of higher education programmes in Europe, to find collaborators and initiate projects, and to learn from one another, as well as to discuss the development of the Association itself.

Coming next...
