Focus on Science

On-site visits

This year, M1 students visited SOLEIL, the French national Synchrotron facility, a multi-disciplinary instrument and research laboratory.  SOLEIL operates as both a research laboratory and a high level scientific resource centre that facilitates thousands of users due to the availability of a range of high level scientific apparatuses. The students experienced the rarity of a first-hand tour inside the Synchrotron. This allowed them to see up close, the state of art equipment used by the facility as well as to learn about its functionality and applications. More information: http://www.synchrotron-soleil.fr/

IPSEN is a globally recognized Pharmaceutical Company headquartered in the region of Paris, France, with commercial presence in 115 countries. It focuses on the development and marketing of medication in oncology, endocrinology and the treatment of neuromuscular disorder. In January, our M1 students had the opportunity to visit the R&D site in the city of Les Ulis where they met members of the R&D staff from whom they received tours of the labs and detailed explanations of the jobs they carried out and the instruments used. Students, Class of 2017

Student life straight from the source. “With regards to school work there is a fair amount to do, but not so much that it would take the fun out of the programme. Getting around is very easy and uncomplicated due to well-organized transportation systems and you can find all the basic food items you are used to and more which are of high quality. There are lots of places to visit, so much that can be done and so one is only limited to what they choose to do (The Eiffel Tower in France, the Leaning Tower of Pisa Italy, Porto Cathedral in Portugal, Cathedral of St. Peter and St. Paul in Poland, just to name a few). The SERP-Chem group is so diverse that there is always something new that can be learnt from another culture, may it be a few words of another language a new style of food/food preparation, new dance steps, new music ,the point is that there is a never ending possibility of learning new cultures. Our relationships transcend being just class mates and develop into what you may call a SERP FAMILY”.

More individual testimonies

Francisco, Class of 2013, Venezuela

Current Position: PDEng trainee - Process Design, TU Delft (Netherlands)

“A fantastic experience, I learnt a lot of different things while living in the different countries and facing different cultures. It gave me an opportunity to work on my networking skills while improving my technical and other soft skills. It opened a door for me to continue my life in Europe. I am sure that I would not be where I am today without SERP-Chem. In addition, it allowed me to make a lot of friends, which I am still in contact with.”

Damien Clavel, Class of 2013, France

Current Position: PhD Student, Université Paris-Sud (France), Molecular Biology -  Crystallography/Molecular Dynamics/Spectroscopy.

“Joining SERP Chem was an unforgettable period of my studies. Many of these reasons are nostalgic but SERP-Chem’s way of teaching and discovering many new things during this short time was a real thrill. For sure we learned a lot about chemistry over the two years but we also discovered a piece of the world with our international classmates. Experience SERP-Chem. Feel the world of chemistry.”

Summer school

The SERP-Chem summer school will take place at the University of Genoa from July, 11th to July, 22nd. The school deals with the necessity to fill the gap between the scientific and technical knowledge acquired by the students at the University and the requests they will have to face in their work career either in academic institutions or industry: in other words with the necessity to develop entrepreneurship. The SERP-Chem students will soon put on their blue caps and gowns… The graduation ceremony - Class of 2016 - will be held on Thursday 7th July at the University Paris-Sud!
